The Connecticut Yankee Council has made a significant investment in Base Camps to serve as a marketing resource to our units and districts. The purpose of these canopies is to promote the Scouting program and our local Council. “Base Camps” can be reserved online and signed out from the Connecticut Yankee Council Resource Center and are available at no charge to our units. All we ask in return is a digital photo or two of the Base Camp in use. Email your photo to email@example.com and be sure to tell us your name, unit and where it was used.
Each Base Camp consists of the following parts:
Care should be taken when selecting an appropriate location for maximum visibility and effectiveness. Respectable locations should be selected taking care that adjacent displays be consistent with the Scout Oath and Law. The Scout uniform is the appropriate attire for Base Camp staff/volunteers. At least one digital photo of the Base Camp in use should be submitted to the appropriate membership executive.
Base Camps can be used for Recruiting, camporees, service projects, town/area fairs, School Nights, activities and other great purposes.
A registered adult volunteer in the unit/district must take responsibility for the care of the Base Camps. Base Camps (all parts) must be cleaned and returned in a timely manner so they can be reassigned to another unit. The individual or unit assumes responsibility for any damage.
While the canopy and banners are waterproof, they are not weatherproof. Even moderate winds (any wind greater than 10 mph) can do damage to the structure and banners. It should not be counted on as a shelter. The Base Camp must be secured on all corners at all times and not left unattended.
No food will be served to the public. No sales of unauthorized products other than Council-approved fundraisers are permitted. No solicitation of donations is allowed (see National Fundraising Guidelines). Base Camps can only be used for approved Scouting activities.
The Base Camp bags are heavy and require at least two people. The kit measures about 12” x 12” x 5’ when packed away. A mini-van, SUV or truck is needed to pick it up.
The Guide to Safe Scouting should be followed at all times.
Base Camps along with other outstanding programs and services of the Connecticut Yankee Council are made possible thanks in part to your gift to Friends of Scouting.
Base camp reservations are accepted in advance of the date needed. However, please submit your reservation at least 3-5 days prior to when you need it. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. If your reservation is not acknowledged within 2 days of submission please contact Lynda Papallo (203) 876-6868 x270 directly.
